JUSTIN MULLINS: WHY I'M RUNNING TO BE YOUR NEXT MAYOR

My name is Justin Mullins, and Monticello is more than just my hometown—it’s the heart of who I am.

I was born here, raised with the values of hard work and community, and I chose to return here to build my life, my family, and my businesses. Like you, I’ve seen our town’s struggles, but I also see its untapped potential. I’m running for mayor because I believe we can do more to make Monticello stronger.

With over 20 years of oil industry leadership, managing 180+ on-site and remote employees, I’ve learned that success begins by investing in people. That same principle has guided me as the owner of Mullins Gym for 16 years, where I’ve helped people push past their limits and grow stronger every day. The lesson is clear: when we support and challenge each other, we build something better. That’s the mindset I will bring to City Hall.

But we must take action now to secure our future. I know it, and you know it. Our greatest strength is our people—especially our youth. We need to give them every reason to stay in Monticello by investing in education, expanding after-school programs, and creating real career paths that lead to good jobs. As a part-time instructor and mentor through Southwest Mississippi Community College’s Career Technical Center, I’ve worked directly with students to connect education with real-world opportunities, helping prepare them for success.

At the same time, we must strengthen our economy and infrastructure, making sure local businesses thrive, our roads and utilities are modernized, and families have safe, vibrant neighborhoods to call home. As President of the Atwood Music Festival and co-founder of our first rodeo, Buckin’ on the Pearl, I’ve seen how strategic investment and community-driven initiatives can boost economic growth and bring people together. When the Atwood Festival faced financial struggles, I personally stepped in to ensure its success—because when something matters to Monticello, we don’t let it fail.

Leadership means listening, learning, and taking bold action. As your mayor, I’ll be accessible, accountable, and committed to making Monticello a place where families can stay and businesses grow.

This isn’t just my campaign—it’s our movement to build a stronger Monticello. I invite you to join me in shaping a future that works for all of us.

Now let's get to work—and Make Monticello Strong Again.
